The Great Western Railway (GWR) 4575 Class is a 2-6-2T Small Prairie type based on the 4500 Class. It differed from the 4500 Class with an increased water capacity of 1300 gallons housed in larger tanks, with a sloping top to the front end. The weight was thereby increased to 61 tons. 100 were built at Swindon Works, numbered 4575-4599 and 5500-5574. These were the final batch of the 4500 Class.
Designed for branch line operation, these charming little engines were an everyday feature of the West Country scene. The last 4 locomotives of the class were withdrawn in December 1964, but 11 have survived into preservation.
