Branch Lines around Preston and Lancaster
Including Fishergate Hill (goods), Preston Dock (featuring the Ribble Steam Railway), Longridge, Knott End, Lancaster Old Line, Glasson Dock, St. George’s Quay & Lancaster Power Station Branches
by Roy Davies
Apart from what remains of the former Preston Dock railway network that serves the Total bitumen terminal and Ribble Steam Railway and Museum, all the branch lines covered in this album were closed and lifted long ago. There are traces of the Longridge branch at Maudland Bridge through the abandoned Miley Tunnel and also occasional traces of earth works of the former branch to Knott End in open fields. Much of the Glasson Dock branch trackbed is now part of the Lancashire Coastal Way and Bay Cycleway and the bridge that carried the Lancaster power station branch over Water Street is still in place.
